Lent Starts, Feb. 26th - Lent Ends, April 11th
Lent Lent comes from the word “Lenten” which means the lengthening of days and has long been highlighted as a season of repentance, reflection, and rekindling our relationship with Jesus. Lent is observed for 40 days and is symbolic of the 40 days that Christ was tempted by the Devil, Matthews   4:   1-11.   During Lent, many Christians observe a period of fasting, repentance, moderation, self-denial, and spiritual discipline. The purpose of the Lenten season is to set aside time for reflection on Jesus Christ—to consider his suffering and his sacrifice, his life, death, burial, and resurrection. During this time period, Christians often choose to “give up,” sacrifice, or abstain from their favorite items such as sweets, meat, sodas, smoking, and others as an acknowledgement of Christ’s sacrifice for us. Meditations For Lent Mt. Olivet’s series of meditations will focus on the benefits we receive as a result of the death and resurrection of Christ as we submit our lives to Him. Our prayer is that these meditations will spark the desire for a deeper, stronger relationship with God and they will motivate everyone to be of service in His Kingdom. There will be a devotional thought to start each week and scriptures to meditate on throughout each day during the week. Let us prepare our minds and hearts to truly celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior Jesus the Christ and all the benefits His work affords us. WEEK TWO - Sun, March 1st Proverbs 3:5-6; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4; Hebrews 12:1-3 and 11:1; Romans 12:3 FAITH - GOD’S INSULATION AGAINST WORLDLY CIRCUMSTANCES The Holy Spirit’s main purpose is to enable us to live the Kingdom life even while we are on this earth. He does not MAKE us do it though. We have to come into partnership with Him for this to happen. The ingredient that is necessary for this to happen is our faith. The Bible describes faith as (He. 11:1) God gives each of us a measure of faith (Ro. 12:3) when we accept Jesus the Christ as our Savior (He becomes our Lord as we grow our faith. Faith is like a muscle, the more you exercise it the stronger it gets; the stronger it gets, the more you recognize when the Holy Spirit is telling you something; also the stronger it gets, the more you experience God’s Kingdom life on this earth (let thy Kingdom come…). None of this happens without the regular study and obeying of God’s word as the Holy Spirit reveals it to us. The most important and most effective way we strengthen our faith is in service to others. We were not saved to see about ourselves, God has emphatically promised to do that. We were saved and left here on earth to be ambassadors for Christ. The more we are a blessing the more we get blessed. Let God help you to become sensitive to the needs of others and watch your faith grow to become that tree planted by the rivers of waters (Ps.1). All because of Christ! Mon, March 2nd - GOD GIVES US FAITH FOR OUR SPIRITUAL JOURNEY Isaiah 40:28-31; John 3:16,17; 2Corinthians 5:7 Tue, March 3rd - GOD’S PLAN TO EXERCISE AND GROW OUR FAITH James 1:3; 1 Timothy 6:11-16; James 2:17 Wed, March 4th - GOD’S PLAN AND OUR RESPONSIBILITY Hebrews 12:1-3; 1Peter 5:7-10; Mark 11:24 Thurs, March 5th - GOD’S HOLY SPIRIT - OUR FAITH PARTNER Ephesians 3:16-21; Romans 15:13; Galatians 5:22-26 Fri, March 6th - THE BENEFITS OF WALKING IN A LIFE OF FAITH 2Corinthians 4:16-18; 1Peter 1:8,9; 1John 5:5,41 Sat, March 7th - GOD’S PLAN - OUR SUPREME CONFIDENCE Hebrews 11:1-6; James 1:2-8; Romans 10:9,10; Galatians 2:20
