One thing have I desired of the lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days off my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple. Psalms 27:4 Reverend Dr. Iris Banister For over four decades, Iris Banister has been known as a highly awarded committed Community Activist and Spiritual Leader. She has been a noted Leader and strong Advocate in the areas of Education, Building Family Stability, Community Development, Antiviolence/Bullying, and Christian Counseling. Banister is an active and dedicated member of her beloved Delta Nu Omega of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., earning the status of “Golden Soror,” 50 years of service. She is a life member of Rochester Genesee Valley Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs, Inc. She has four publications to her credit: “Lasso Your Whirlwind”; “Empowerment: Walking the Walk and Talking the Talk;” “The Fifth Ace;” and a compilation of essays “Empower Women and Inspire Vision.” Iris Banister is a native of Oklahoma City Oklahoma. She earned a BS in Education from Jarvis Christian College, a MS in Urban Education from Geneseo State University; a MS in Counseling Minority Groups and a Certificate of Advance Study-Administration from Brockport State University College, she attended the University of Rochester seeking a EdD in Counseling, and earned the terminal degree—Doctorate in Divinity at Master’s University School of Divinity. She serves as an Associate Minister at In Christ New Hope Ministry. Iris Banister is an ordained Minister and has served faithfully as unto the Lord. She earned her Doctorate in Divinity with special emphasis in Counseling and Congregational Care. She is a welcome guest in pulpits across the country. She is the founder and Chief Facilitator of NAMOW, woman spelled backwards, a Counseling, Support, and Referral Service. She is the recent co-founder of GT2g , G oing T hrough T o g ether, Grief Counseling . Iris Banister work experience includes but is not limited to: Rochester City School District for 32 years as elementary teacher, reading specialist, guidance counselor, Central Office Transition Facilitator, House Administrator at Douglass Middle School, and Program Administrator for the Senior High Alternative Program of Education, SHAPE. She came out of retirement to serve as Principal of the Charter School Science and Technology, also Adjunct Professor at St. John Fisher College and Instructor at Rochester Colgate Divinity School in the PEARL Program. She entered the non-profit world as the Executive Director of Wilson Commencement Park; and Executive Director of Rochester Surround Care Community Inc. Rev. Dr. Iris J. Banister believes and lives by the motto: Each person should, in every way possible, work to light up the corner where they are and the darkness will flee!”
