At
the end of the Sabbath as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week,
Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James and Salome had bought sweet spices so
that they might come and anoint Jesus. Very early in the morning on the
first day of the week they came to the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.
They asked among themselves, "who shall roll away the stone from the door for
us?" When they looked, they saw that the stone had already been rolled
away. Entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the
right side, clothed in a long white garment. They were afraid. He
said to them:
"Be not afraid. You seek Jesus
of Nazareth which was crucified. He is
risen. He is not here.
Behold the place where they laid Him. Go your way,
tell his
disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee. There shall
you see
him as He told you."
Jesus rose early the first day of the week and appeared first to
Mary Magdalene. She went told Peter and His disciples that they had taken
Jesus out of the sepulchre. They did not know where they had laid Him.
Peter and the disciples ran to the sepulchre. Peter who arrived first,
stooped down, looked in the sepulchre, saw the linen clothes and the napkin that
covered Jesus' head. The disciples left.
Mary stayed. While she was weeping and talking with two
angels, Jesus appeared and asked her why she was weeping. Initially, she
did not recognize Him until he called her name. Jesus told her not to
touch Him because He had not ascended to his Father. She ran and told the
disciples that she had seen the Jesus and what He had said.
That same day in the evening, Jesus appeared to the disciples and showed them His hands and His side. He said unto them:
"All Power is given unto me in Heaven and in
Earth."
"Go ye into all the world, and preach the
gospel to every creature. He that
believeth and is baptized shall be saved;
but he that believeth not shall be
damned."
"And these
signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast
out devils;
they shall speak with new tongues; They shall take up serpents;
and if they
drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall
lay hands
on the sick, and they shall recover."
After Jesus had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven
and sat on the right hand of God. The disciples went forth, preaching
everywhere, the Lord was working with them and they confirmed the word with
signs.
